2014:time:space: is a multi-disciplinary research project by Dr Robert Casteels (composer, conductor, performer and pedagogue), Dirk Stromberg (composer, software and hardware designer, audio engineer, performer and pedagogue) and Andrew Thomas (visual director). A fruitful and meaningful collaboration between LASALLE College of the Arts and the members of the project aimed at engaging harmoniously with a team of students, pedagogues and practitioners of LASALLE College through a series of workshops culminating in performances. Speakers were set up amongst and around the audience creating multiple spatial plains. Sounds were diffused, some according to a pre-set pattern, some by direct manipulation in real-time. Parts of the performance were pre-recorded, some included the participation of live performers Robert Casteels and Isaiah Koh, as well as dancer Leia Ang. Two instrument musical hardware interfaces were developed for this project. Each interface consisted of an array of sensors that create music when manipulated by the performer. The original visuals by Andrew Thomas combined projections of pre-recorded footage featuring urban and rural scenes of Singapore, presented on multiple screens. A live feed of the performance was streamed online.
