The title Khi refers to capital letter X in the Greek alphabet, that is the first letter of the word chiasma meaning “crossing“. In rhetoric, chiasmus is a figure of speech in which structures are reversed. This composition for solo guitar consists of two contrasting parts (here for clarity sake designated as A and B) that are structured as following: A B B A. The French subtitle of this composition, “antimétabole pour guitare acoustique opus 94“, refers to another figure of speech in rhetoric in which sub-elements of the chiasmus are repeated within the chiastic formal structure. Part A is based on a warm melody with microtones surrounded by light touches of colour. The central part B is fast, lighthearted and mischievous. Khi was composed in 2013 and commissioned by Didier Ballenghien.
