Programme notes:

Belgian soprano Lilith Verhelst sings the eponymous poem by A.M. Beuken whilst playing with the canvas animated by Pete Kellock’s sounds of the 5th piece of the concert entitled time:crytals. Meanwhile composer Robert Casteels plays with the sphere, another e-instrument invented by Dirk Stromberg. Fingers articulate pressure sensors. Accelerometers require the use of wrists to orient the two halves of the sphere. In short, the custom built-in software of the Sphere allows the performer to sculpt the interdependent aspects of amplitude, timbre and pitch.

De tijd gaat                                     Time goes

Ben ik je vriend                              Am I your friend

je vijand                                          your enemy

te vroeg, te laat                             too early, too late

geliefd en gehaat                          loved and hated

lang, kort                                     long, short

- soms maar heel even -           - sometimes only just a little -

kan ik mij aan jou geven           I can give myself to you

wonden kan ik helen                 wounds I can heal

verander jou langzaam             slowly changing you

als een van velen                       like one of many

ga ik jou voorbij                           I ignore you

maar blijf ik                                  but remain

altijd.                                             always.
