Programme notes:

The Floating Lighthouse is a collaborative art work by visual artist Milenko Prvački, interactive artist Ryf Zaini and sonic artist Robert Casteels.

Located off the waterfront promenade of Singapore’s Marina Bay opposite the red Dot Design Museum, The Floating Lighthouse was one of the 33 sustainable light art installations presented by the festival I light singapore bicentennial edition held from 28 January to 24 February 2019 in conjunction with the Singapore Bicentennial commemoration.

The Floating Lighthouse consists of six light structures made of ready-made materials, metal and fiberglass that float on the water, lights inside and on the top of the six structures, underwater cables connected to loudspeakers that diffuse the six pre-recorded sound tracks and a console on land that enables members of the public to start the sound by touching the console. As they press on the six buttons, switches trigger sound and light. If they intermittently press them, then the sound and light will react accordingly because specific sound and light are assigned to each structure. This gives the viewers the ability to conduct their own light show and provides them with a synesthetic experience. The Floating Lighthouse is a sustainable artwork as the materials are ready-made, recycled, domestic and industrial plastic. The lighting fixtures are LEDs that are encased in a fiberglass shell and that consume little energy. The size of each structure is approximately 120 – 80cm (h) x 30 - 50cm (w) x 3cm (l).

The Floating Lighthouse expresses reflection and irradiates peacefulness. The Floating Lighthouse shows convergence in both directions in and out of the port of call, our country Singapore. The Floating Lighthouse welcomes you to Singapore, our beacon of light, our home.
