  ·      vijf hangende metallofonen (gongs, tams, windgongs, thaise, chinese, zonder specifieke toonhoogte, gekozen voor de schoonheid van hun klank, niet tonaal met elkander verbonden) 

  ·      vijf hangende triangels of vijf zware aluminium staven (van verschillende toonhoogtes)

  ·      vijf bekken (één paar crash bekken, drie hangende bekken, één paar hangende vingerbekken (of crotales zonder specifieke toonhoogte)

  3.     Credo

The personality of Dirk Wauters provided the artistic impetus of Casteels's third mass. Dirk Wauters is a Flemish sculptor who lives and works in Kapellen (Brabant), that is the same village as the parents of the composer. Besides his practice in contemporary visual arts, Dirk has developed a practice as multiple percussion soloist. What started as a mere sonic curiosity when dabbling with scultpures that produce sounds when hit, has turned into an intense explorative journey in improvisation and a the consitution of an impressive collection of hundreds of percussion instruments of all cultures, materials and sizes. Dirk also builds his own percussion structures. Dirk collaborates with saxophone improviser Thomas Olbrechts. The third mass by Casteels was composed with these two artistic personalities in mind. The entire score is in graphic notation. The five movements of the Mass are based on the five elements: Kyrie on water, Gloria on fire, Credo on earth, Sanctus on air and Agnus Dei on ether.
