Imagine you approach a city at night from the air. Angst. Dots of lights flicker. Tiny objects scurry off. Metallic sounds scintillate. Contours of urban structures appear. Serendipity. Tinkling geometry. Serenity.
Is this home? City Scape is the result of the collaboration between Casteels for the acoustic music and Gao Yang for the electro-acoustic. The two composers intentionally left creative space to the performers, the guitarists in shaping the sound gestures convincingly and the conductor in pacing the sound gestures effectively. The premiere took place during a concert entitled Asian Waves: the Changing Face of Asia.
